Colonel John W. Ripley, U.S. Marine Corps, retired, was a member of the Radford High School Class of 1957 and the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1962. He was awarded the Navy Cross for actions at Dong Ha in the Republic of Vietnam in 1972. He was born on June 29, 1939, and died on November 1, 2008.
