Grand Haven South Pierhead Inner Light stands on the south pier at Grand Haven, Michigan, marking where the Grand River enters Lake Michigan. Serving as the inner light in a paired set of beacons, it has guided navigation at this harbor entrance since a light was first shown there in 1839, underscoring the site’s long importance to travel on both the lake and river. In 2009, it was offered for sale under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act. Today, the City of Grand Haven owns the pier, and the Army Corps of Engineers maintains it.
