The Boise Greenbelt is a riverside trail system along the Boise River through Boise and nearby southwest Idaho communities, extending more than 20 miles in its main corridor and more than 30 miles across the full network. Its origins lay in Boise’s 1962 comprehensive plan and local efforts to clean up the river and expand public access. Donations in 1967, planning in 1968, committee work in 1969, and a 1971 ordinance protecting the corridor helped shape its growth. Though assembled gradually and still interrupted in places, it now connects major parks, downtown Boise, Boise State University, and other public destinations as a defining recreational and non-motorized route.
