Pine Mountain Wilderness
Nature
Pine Mountain Wilderness is a federally protected backcountry area in central Arizona within Prescott National Forest, along the forest’s southern edge where it meets Tonto National Forest. Centered on Pine Mountain, the highest point on the Verde River Rim at 6,814 feet, it is known for broad northeastern views over the Wild and Scenic Verde. Its higher slopes are covered with ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, giving the area an unusually forested character. The wilderness includes six hiking trails and remains an important preserved landscape within the national forest.
