Built by Guy Maltby of Big Bear Valley Milling & Lumber Company in 1927-1928, this building served as the original community market in Big Bear City. It was sold to Frank & Freda Jakobi, who lived upstairs. In 1936 it was replaced by todays community market, owned by the Barnes family and located on the corner of Greenway & Big Bear Blvd. At that time, a single gas pump stood in front of the building. In 1976 the building was moved to this location and officially opened as a museum on June 12, 1982.
