Snow Summit, established in 1952 near Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains, grew into one of Southern California’s larger winter sports areas and a longtime destination for skiers and snowboarders from the Los Angeles region. Its 1,209-foot vertical drop, roughly 240 acres of skiable terrain, and extensive snowmaking system fed by Big Bear Lake have helped sustain its popularity. After years of operating separately from nearby Goldmine Mountain, later Bear Mountain, the two were united under one company in 2002. Today Snow Summit is part of Big Bear Mountain Resorts and remains a major regional ski destination.
