Grasshopper Cross
Faith
10
In May 1876, Father Pierre Boucher led a pilgrimage of Catholic and Protestant marchers back to Jefferson after an eleven mile trek seeking divine intervention in the grasshopper plague. That day, a rude cross was erected in the cemetery, and the huge wooden cross there later replaced it. It was the third cross erected that day, which was regarded as miraculous, and the grasshoppers left.
