Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve is a 134-acre protected landscape in Fox Chapel north of Pittsburgh, preserving woodlands, fields, streams, and a pond for plants and wildlife. The land began as part of the former Flinn estate, purchased in 1903 by William Flinn, who developed it as a gentleman’s farm known for registered Guernsey cattle that supplied dairy products locally. Its present conservation mission took shape in the 1970s after Rachel Mellon Walton and Farley Walton Whetzel donated the estate land to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Since 1977, the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania has managed the reserve as a center for habitat protection, environmental education, and public access.
