Built in 1915 with a Victorian floor plan, this was the home of S.J. Routon, a state senator from 1907 to 1912, and Mrs. S.J. Routon, fondly known as “Miss Pearl.” She was the first woman made honorary colonel on the Tennessee governor's staff, named the iris as Tennessee's state flower, and designed “Pearl Gardens,” where she developed many new varieties of iris and hosted thousands of visitors. Her oil paintings and portraits hang in many historic buildings, and she was known as an artist, musician, florist, politician, and civic and social leader, “a lady ahead of her time.”
