Obion Mounds, also called the Work Farm Site, is a major Mississippian archaeological center on the north fork of the Obion River north of Paris, Tennessee, and the largest known Mississippian site in western Tennessee. Probably inhabited from about 1000 to 1100 CE and abandoned by 1300, it featured seven platform mounds arranged around a central plaza, with the largest mound rising about 30 feet and accessed by a ramp. The complex was once enclosed by a wooden palisade. Its importance is heightened by the 1845 discovery of a rare stone statue there, the only one of its kind known from a Mississippian site in western Tennessee.
