Thomas Clay was a Revolutionary War captain who represented Madison County in the Kentucky constitutional conventions of 1792 and 1799, served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1792 to 1793 and from 1796 to 1798, and served in the Kentucky Senate from 1793 to 1795. He came here in 1812. He was a cousin of John Clay, father of Kentucky statesman Henry Clay, an uncle of Cassius Marcellus Clay of the Civil War period, and the grandfather of U.S. Senator T.C. McCreery.
