Fredrick Steward, who lived from 1845 to 1935, was a Civil War veteran, served two terms as mayor of Liberty Center, and was justice of the peace for Liberty Township for many years. This land was formerly owned by him and was given to the Village of Liberty Center by his great-granddaughter Bertha Leatherman. It was dedicated in 1988.
