Arrowhead Monument
History
2
Arrowhead Monument has stood in the town square of Old Fort, North Carolina, as a thirty-foot hand-carved granite landmark in front of the depot and a familiar sight for travelers through western North Carolina. Unveiled on July 27, 1930, before a crowd of more than 6,000 people, it was presented by Martha Nesbitt with local Catawba community leaders also present. It was meant to symbolize the peace said to have been established between pioneers and Native Americans in the previous century. Still in place as of 2023, it remains a recognizable feature of Old Fort and a focus of community decorations.
