The Okeechobee Battlefield is hallowed ground where the patriots and warriors who fought in the battle are honored and memorialized. The National Trust for Historic Preservation designated it as one of America’s most endangered lands in 2000. In the spring of 2006, the Governor and Cabinet voted to acquire the 145 acre site and established the Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park. The park opened in 2015. The site is preserved as a national, Seminole, and Florida historic treasure.
