Isham Browder enlisted in 1776 at age 14 in the 2nd Virginia Regiment of the Continental line, was wounded at Monmouth, and was discharged in 1779. He came to Kentucky in 1795 and settled with his family on the Pond River grant in what is now Hopkins County. When the county was formed, he was appointed to the first County Court and also served as sheriff. The 1807 tax roll listed 2,100 acres in his name. He was a leader in the pioneer Methodist Church, came here in 1828 to the home of two sons, bought land in Fulton County, and died in 1830.
