Bybee-Centerville, also known as Sayer, stood between Lewisville and Rigby, the Drybed Channel of the Snake River, also called the Great Feeder Canal, and the Burgess Canal. It was settled in 1883-84 by John A. Cuthbert, Alexander Kinghorn, Dan Adams, William Briggs, Neil Gilchrist, Owen Sayer, Joseph W. Jones, Henry M. Harmon, Arthur Goody, and their families, whose first homes were wagon boxes and tents. John Cuthbert's well was dug in May 1884. Center School was built in 1895 on land donated by Eli Campbell. In 1900, a post office was established in Owen Sayer's cabin, with Sayer as the first postmaster. Other early developments included Mary Boram's general store and millinery shop, the Kinghorn Brothers brick kilns, the Oregon Short Line Railroad spur, and the Parks and Lewisville Irrigation System. A branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints formed in 1900 with Erastus Walker as Presiding Elder and was organized into Bybee Ward in 1908.
