The Baptist Church congregation was organized at Old Chariton in 1820 with twenty members. In 1827 it moved to Monticello, and in 1861 it moved to Glasgow, where a substantial brick house was built and sold to the Presbyterians in 1866. After some years the congregation erected the present building, one of the most elegant churches in the county, at a cost of $12,000.00, and dedicated it in 1871.
