Olander Banks, Sr. and Margaret Lomax Banks
History

Olander Banks, Sr. dedicated this site to the memory of his wife, Margaret Lomax Banks, preserving it in perpetuity as a park. He and Margaret Lomax Banks purchased the property in 1957, when it was an open gravel lot. At Margaret Banks's suggestion, they built a 27-room home here, where they raised their nine children and for over four decades created a peaceful oasis for family and friends. As intense development grew around the property, Olander Banks, Sr. was inspired to be "One with the Dream" and share the family estate with Fairfax County. The Fairfax County Park Authority established the Olander Banks, Sr. and Margaret Lomax Banks Community Park in August 2001, and through his giving spirit and faith, Olander Banks, Sr. ensured that it would remain a special place for future generations to enjoy.
