This park was established through the dedicated efforts of the Elmwood Business Associates and the West Hartford Lions Club on the site where the great stand of elms, from which Elmwood took its name, once grew. The trees had been planted to commemorate the Patriots' victory at Saratoga in 1777 over British General John Burgoyne, and many of those Patriots were from West Hartford.
