The Oklahoma War Chief was the first newspaper printed in the Cherokee Strip, published on June 14, 1884, at the tent town of Rock Falls 2.5 miles northwest of here by Capt. David L. Payne, leader of the Oklahoma "Boomers." In August 1884, the printing office was burned and the "Boomers" were disbanded by U.S. troops.
