History

"Pine Ford" was the ancestral home of George Fisher, founder of Middletown in 1755, on land granted to his father by the Penns in 1747. About 300 feet east, near the modern Fisher's Bridge, lay the old Pine Ford across Swatara Creek, named for the pine trees that lined its banks. It formed part of the great highway connecting Philadelphia with Lancaster and Carlisle and was crossed by Washington, Lafayette, and other heroes of Revolutionary times.
