Winslow Crocker House in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, began around 1780 as the home of wealthy trader and land speculator Winslow Crocker. Its current form reflects a major transformation in 1936, when collector Mary Thacher moved it to this site and remodeled it to evoke an early American interior for her antiques. She altered woodwork, windows, and the fireplace to give it a colonial Cape Cod appearance shaped partly by 1930s taste. The museum now preserves both an eighteenth-century dwelling and a revealing example of how Americans of that era interpreted the colonial past, along with furnishings in several early American styles.
