During the Viet Nam War, three young soldiers from Oakdale, Louisiana, Herbert (Terry) Cross of the U.S. Marines, Bryford G. Metoyer of the U.S. Army, and Gary M. McCollough of the U.S. Army, gave their lives for the love of their country. Herbert (Terry) Cross lived from 1944 to 1968, Bryford G. Metoyer from 1938 to 1968, and Gary M. McCollough from 1948 to 1968, and they are remembered by the people of Oakdale.
