Saugerties Light is a Hudson River lighthouse just north of Saugerties, New York, serving as a river light for local navigation rather than an ocean beacon. The present structure, built in 1869, replaced an 1838 light, and records note keeper Abraham Persons there in 1835. After its active Coast Guard service ended in 1954, the building was preserved through a new effort in 1986, when the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy bought and restored it. Today it includes a small museum, public tours, and overnight rooms, while remaining recognized as a historic light station that preserves the maritime history of the Hudson and the Saugerties waterfront.
