Nature
Tivoli Bays Wildlife Management Area is a 1,722-acre protected landscape along the east side of the Hudson River in Dutchess County, between Tivoli and Red Hook. It includes North Bay and South Bay, nearby uplands and shoreline, the mouths of Stony Creek and the Saw Kill, and Cruger and Magdalene islands. Shaped by Hudson tides that carry Atlantic rise and fall inland, it preserves notable freshwater intertidal marsh and freshwater tidal swamp habitats within the Hudson River Estuary. Designated a New York State Natural Heritage Area in 2007, it supports rare or endangered species and important ecological communities while also offering public recreation in a distinctive tidal setting.
