Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve is a 292-acre protected forest, wetland, and pond complex in Cheektowaga near Buffalo, operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as both wildlife refuge and environmental education site. It began with land purchased in 1932 by Dr. Victor Reinstein, who, with family and associates, expanded and shaped the habitat in the early 1960s by planting 30,000 trees and creating 19 ponds, marshes, and swamps. Donated to New York after his death, the preserve came under state control in 1986, was dedicated in 1989, and gained a LEED-certified education center in 2007.
