Pocahontas State Park, along Swift Creek near Richmond, is Virginia’s largest state park at 7,919 acres and is named for Pocahontas, daughter of Chief Powhatan. Its development by the Civilian Conservation Corps remains central to its identity, and a museum in a CCC-built building preserves that history through photographs, artifacts, and personal mementos. The park is also a major outdoor destination, offering fishing in its streams and lakes and an especially notable mountain biking network. Its many miles of singletrack, organized into the Morgan, Lakeview, and Swift Creek systems, helped draw 1,142,601 visitors in 2015.
