Part of the World Trade Center South Tower was recovered in October 2001 and presented to the Monroe Fire Department in recognition of the service of the emergency responders who protect the Monroe community. Steel recovered from the World Trade Center after September 11, 2001, courtesy of the Port Authority of NY and NJ, is displayed in memory of 2,752 victims, including 343 New York City firefighters, 37 Port Authority police officers, and 23 New York City police officers.
