The Pierce Site in Apalachicola, Florida, about a mile northwest of the city on 12th Street, is a pre-Columbian archaeological site also known as Pierce Mounds and Middens and as site 8FR14. It preserves evidence of Native occupation from more than one period of Florida prehistory. The site was occupied during the Middle Woodland Period, represented by early Weeden Island and Swift Creek ceramics, and it was used again during the late prehistoric Fort Walton Period. Its importance as an archaeological place was formally recognized on January 11, 1974, when it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
