Prairies and Pineywoods Wildlife Trail
Nature
The Prairies and Pineywoods Wildlife Trail is a state-designated network in East Texas and one of the state's four major wildlife trail systems. Instead of a single route, it consists of two broad sections spanning prairie and forest landscapes. The western section crosses more open country from Brenham and College Station north to Wichita Falls and Denison, while the eastern section runs through more wooded terrain from Huntsville and Hemphill north to Paris and Texarkana. Together they connect diverse habitats in the Piney Woods region and adjoining prairies, including Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, and Sabine national forests, under one wildlife-viewing and sanctuary system.
