Phelps's original Methodist Church was a wooden building erected in 1817. A second church, built of brick, was begun in 1855 and dedicated in 1856. In 1974, the Methodist and Presbyterian churches merged and became the United Church of Phelps. The United Methodist Church was razed in 1983.
