Lewis W. Barton Arboretum is a 168-acre arboretum and nature preserve in Medford Township, New Jersey, on the grounds of Medford Leas. Along the edge of the Pine Barrens, it unites cultivated gardens with protected natural habitats, including meadows, woodlands, wetlands, and curated tree collections. Created with help from the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, it features an international pinetum, conifer and rhododendron collections, and plantings of hollies, viburnums, crabapples, and chestnuts. A former New Jersey State Champion Carya cordiformis, destroyed by lightning in 1997, remains visible through its preserved trunk and stump. Open daily without charge, it serves both as a local preserve and a public garden resource.
