Bethel Church Arbor was the earliest documented seat of Methodism in Cabarrus County. It was originally used to house week-long camp meeting revivals traditionally held on the second Sunday in August. A reported estimate of 2000 people attended in 1878, and families camped in cabins or tents around the arbor. Its oak timbers are hand-hewn and held together with wooden pegs. The Sunday tradition continues to this day in the form of a congregational homecoming, and Bethel Arbor was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
