Troy's physical location made it a crossroads of transportation both for early settlers and townspeople and for later residents. It stood on the National Road, served as a stagecoach stop going west before St. Louis and the first stop going east from St. Louis, and had a railroad depot. When automobiles arrived, several garages and dealerships opened to service and sell cars. From stagecoach stops to super highways, Troy remained an important element in the development of the area.
