Roger Williams Park Botanical Center in Providence, Rhode Island, opened in March 2007 as New England’s largest indoor public garden, with about 12,000 square feet of planted space under glass. Organized around connected greenhouses, it combines display and education through the Conservatory, the Mediterranean Room, and two smaller houses with a Flavor Lab and Lil Sprouts Play area. More than 150 plant species and cultivars grow there, including 17 kinds of palms. Many plants from the park’s old greenhouses, especially cacti, agave, and aloe, were preserved and replanted, linking the center to the park’s continuing horticultural work.
