Built in 1957 by EMD as an SD-9 with 1750 horsepower, this locomotive was originally built for the Nickel Plate Road as number 349 and was used in the coalfields of the Wheeling District, pulling heavy coal trains. It and most of its 19 sister units worked for many more years with the Norfolk and Western and later with Norfolk Southern as number 52. It was retired in 2009 and donated to the museum in 2010.
