Bishop John Seybert was the first bishop of the Evangelical Association and traveled more than 175,000 miles in the Midwest, including Flat Rock, preaching the word of God. He died in 1860 in the Parker Home near Bellevue and is buried at Flat Rock. Flat Rock was established in 1841 as a colony of Evangelicals from the Thomas Class in McClure, Pennsylvania. The historic cluster includes Flat Rock, the Wonder Home, the Parker Home, the Old Stone Church, Ebenezer Church, Seybert Church and Museum, the Detterman Log Church, the Bishop Seybert Cemetery, and the Flat Rock Children's Home.
