Hartsville Cemetery
Education
P.L. Habermacher, Miles J. Allen, and J.S. Dabney purchased this land in 1903 to establish a school, church, and cemetery. The Hartsville school was a two-room building used until 1939, when its students were consolidated with Wallis school. The Hartsville Church of Christ continued meeting on the site until 1949, when the church building was moved to Sealy, where it remains in use. The Sealy Church of Christ assumed ownership of the site in 1978 and managed it until November 2001, when ownership was transferred to the Hartsville Cemetery Association. The Hartsville Cemetery Association had been formed in July 2001 to own and manage the cemetery, and its board of directors consists of descendants of the property's original owners.
