The Unisphere was dedicated to man's aspirations to Peace Through Understanding and symbolized his achievements in an expanding universe. Built and presented by the United States Steel Corporation (USS) to the New York World's Fair on April 22, 1964, it was made of stainless steel and stood 140 feet high, 120 feet in diameter, and weighed 700,000 pounds.
