The Unisphere was dedicated toward man's aspirations to Peace Through Understanding and symbolized his achievements in an expanding universe. Built and presented by the United States Steel Corporation (USS) to the New York World's Fair on April 22, 1964, it is made of stainless steel and stands 140 feet high, 120 feet in diameter, and weighs 700,000 pounds.
