The Western Science Center in Hemet, California, near Diamond Valley Lake, is a museum and research institution devoted to archaeology, paleontology, and regional history. Opened in 2006 to house nearly one million specimens uncovered during the lake’s development, it is known for Native American artifacts and Ice Age fossils from the Diamond and Domenigoni valleys, including Max, Xena, and Li'l Stevie. Its galleries interpret the natural and human history of the surrounding valleys and include material tied to the Domenigoni family and the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians. The center also supports active research, education, and environmentally conscious design, earning LEED Platinum status and Smithsonian Affiliate status in 2008.
