Portrait of Meshach Browning
Arts & Culture
In 2020, a project created 3D-printed plaques depicting Meshach Browning and his dogs, painted and decorated by community members and assembled into a mosaic. Production of the panels was paid for by an Impact Garrett County grant awarded by the Population Health, Innovation and Informatics Unit at the Garrett County Health Department with primary funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The Deep Creek Lake Lions Club coordinated the project, commissioned the 3D sculpt of Browning, and assembled the individual plaques into the final mosaic. Community members who wanted to contribute were mailed a plaque to paint in their own manner. Many participants were direct descendants of Browning and documented their lineage on the backs of the plaques, referenced by a small number on those plaques. Students in the Partners After School program also took part, giving them a historical and artistic educational opportunity.
