Eagle Rock
Nature
Eagle Rock is a prominent sandstone outcrop in Topanga State Park in California’s Santa Monica Mountains, better understood as a large rock pinnacle than a true mountain. Once called Elephant Rock because its north side resembles an elephant’s head, it later took its present name from nearby Eagle Spring after the park was established. It stands out as a distinct landmark within the park and is commonly reached by a relatively easy hike using the Musch Trail and Topanga Fire Road. Near the top, an easy scramble leads up one side, while the opposite face falls away steeply for about 100 feet.
