Thomas A. Anderson was involved with the sale of much of the land in the Tullahoma area. Pierce B. Anderson planned, surveyed, and drew maps of the original plot of Tullahoma and was instrumental in moving the Coffee/Franklin County line so that all of the town would lie in Coffee County. He attended West Point for two years, where he ranked at the top of his class. He served as an officer in the Mexican-American War and in the Civil War, and it is believed that he was the first commissioned officer from Tennessee to be killed in battle. Thomas and Pierce were sons of Joseph Islee Anderson, who bore arms through the whole of the American Revolution; in 1791 President Washington appointed him a judge in the Southwest Territory, now Tennessee; in 1797 he was appointed one of Tennessee's first U.S. senators and served for 18 years; and in 1815 he was appointed Comptroller of the U.S. Treasury. Other members of the Town Company not buried in Oakwood Cemetery were General William Moore, Volney S. Stevenson, and Benjamin Decherd.
