Anne Arundel Academy was a private high school for boys and girls whose aim was “To create a love for labor, honesty and a high moral life.” Founded by Phil Moore Leakin, its first principle, it began with classes in a rented log house and later used a one-story school built at a cost of $600. Original stockholders included W. H. Baldwin, H. H. Brown, Owen Cecil, R. I. Duvall, B. E. Gantt, and B. D. Hall. In 1924, the trustees gave a 10-acre campus, equipment, a library, and $6,000 to Anne Arundel County for a public high school on the site.
