Constructed in multiple phases from about 1791 to about 1880, the Tallman-Budke House represents the distinctive tradition of sandstone vernacular domestic architecture in Dutch-settled Rockland County, New York, and adjacent Bergen County, New Jersey. Its first owners were Harmanus Tallman and Maria Onderdonk Tallman, whose household included two enslaved people of African descent. Over the course of the house’s history, occupants included tenant farmers and members of the Budke family, but since the 1940s the house has been uninhabited. The house was placed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places in 2017.
