Born in Benton in 1918, Joe Creason often spoke of his birthplace as "the only town in Kentucky where I was born." He became an outstanding journalist whose daily column, "Joe Creason's Kentucky," in the Louisville Courier-Journal won him wide recognition and acclaim. Known as a "goodwill ambassador," he wrote fondly of his native state. He died in 1974 and was buried at Bethel, Kentucky.
