First Presbyterian Church was organized by the Tuscaloosa Presbytery in 1824 as Mesopotamia Presbyterian Church. John H. Gray served as its first minister from 1826 to 1836. The church building was erected in 1851 by contractor D.B. Anthony, and an educational building was erected in 1959.
