McFadin's Station, the first station in this area, was established in 1785 on the north bank of the Barren River by Andrew McFadin (McFadden), one of eight brothers from North Carolina who all fought in the Revolutionary War. Five of the brothers later came to Kentucky and settled along the Barren River, and Andrew made the first surveys of much of the land in this region. McFadin's served as a stopover for Robert Moore, who founded Bowling Green about 1796. The station stood near the Cumberland Trace, an important artery in the development of this region, used by many settlers. That route branched from the Wilderness Road near Harrodsburg, passed the present sites of Greensburg and Glasgow, crossed the Barren River here, and continued to the Cumberland settlements, now Nashville, Tennessee.
