The Flora Temple Mine was discovered at this location and became the second patented claim in Arizona in 1871. In the early 1870s, Colorado River steamboat captain Isaac Polthamus purchased the mine, and he and his partner Nicholas Gunter were its original claimants. The Castle Dome Mining & Smelting Company later acquired ownership and operated the mine until 1933, when it was sold to Mrs. Eliza DeLuce. Its ore was silver-galena, consisting mainly of silver and lead, and in 1979 falling silver prices made mining that ore no longer profitable.
